The old pool of Las Aguas will soon be a memory for the inhabitants of San Juan de la Rambla. In June 2010, it was closed together with the annex building due to the risk of collapse and the impossibility of being recovered as a result of the erosion suffered by inclement weather and the sea. After many unsuccessful attempts and contests that were left deserted, the demolition works of the structure finally began last week, which will allow the access to the beach to be recovered and reinforce the security of walls and roads.

“It is the first action within the comprehensive remodeling project of Las Aguas, the first token that moves in this great puzzle,” underlines the acting mayor, Ezequiel Domínguez. The action will last 12 months and is complex, given that it not only involves the demolition of the pool, but also the construction of retaining walls, other security walls, the Los Alenes path and the two ramps. beach access. Its budget amounts to 1.9 million euros and the works are carried out by the Joint Venture, made up of the companies Señalizaciones Villar SA and Yárritu, SA

After these works, in one year the rambleros will be able to enjoy their beach and will be able to see the space open to the sea, which will be expanded due to the fact that the existing bathing area will be matched with the new space gained thanks to the demolition of the pool. However, the exact surface area and width it will have cannot yet be determined. “Everything will depend on how it looks after the pool is removed and how the sea beats in the area, where there used to be small puddles that were occupied by the pool,” says the president.

The next action will be the construction of the new road and the front of the avenue, which will become a pedestrian open to the sea. One of the novelties is that it will house an amphitheater with a stage facing the rock itself to stimulate musical and leisure activities on the promenade itself.

The total duration of the project, which also includes a square and a new parking area, cannot be estimated, since the Administration has yet to finish the process of expropriation and purchase of land. “Everything will depend on the administrative processes,” clarifies the president.
