SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The co-spokesperson for United We Can and candidate for the mayor’s office of La Laguna, Rubens Ascanio, admits that last Sunday’s electoral result, in which the coalition went from five to two councilors, is a “hard electoral blow” although he has claimed that the “natural pact” of the left with PSOE and Drago Verdes Canarias should govern the municipality.
This is the balance that he presented in the Lagunera Citizen Assembly held on Wednesday night in which he recognized the ballast of a “divided left that caused the results to be fractured in most of the tables with respect to 2019.”
In a note, he points out that “thousands of votes” were lost who went to other political forces “or decided to stay at home”, so he advances that a “reformulation” of the way of managing and communicating must be carried out, as well as “recovering” workspaces with citizens.
Ascanio reported that a negotiating commission has been appointed to initially explore the agreement with PSOE and Drago Verdes Canarias “based on a common government program, which should be the pillar on which this new government is built.”
In the coming days, Unidas se Puede will hold new assemblies in which they will define the aspects of this agreement based on housing policy, the General Plan, citizen participation, the development of sustainable mobility and the network of bike lanes, in addition to of strengthening the infrastructures of towns and neighbourhoods, among others.
For the co-spokesperson of Unidas se Puede, “a listening period opens”, where they will also meet with other political groups from the municipal arc, except with VOX, who consider that with “their xenophobic hate speech and commitment to the setback in rights should not fit in La Laguna”.
From the confluence of the left, they indicate that they would like to achieve stability and a programmatic pact that allows “advancing in rights” and in the improvement of the municipality.
Thus, the assembly of Unidas se Puede expressed its willingness to continue contributing to the unity of action of the left and the confluence in the face of future electoral scenarios.
“La Laguna resists thanks to that will, thanks to maintaining a coherent discourse between the proposals and the facts, thanks to generosity. We will work to continue being a bridge of union and a space that provides hope for the workers of the Canary Islands”, ends.
