The CC-PNC group demands “that investments in Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing be promoted.” In addition, it warns that “the low execution weighs on the primary sector on the Island.” Nationalist counselor Antolín Bueno explains: “Of the 8.1 million euros planned, only around one (999,575) has been executed in the first eight months of 2021, which is 12.25% of what was planned.”
For Bueno it is essential “that all projects and investments in agriculture, livestock and fishing be streamlined because they are strategic sectors for Tenerife and, in addition, the works would generate employment for our battered economy.” In this regard, it demands “the implementation of a generational replacement plan to promote youth employment.” Remember that «Tenerife has a youth unemployment rate that exceeds 50% and it is necessary to articulate initiatives to promote the access of this sector of the population to the labor market ”.
“The primary sector has been aging and it is necessary to incorporate young people”, says Antolín Bueno, who underlines: “Our group presented an amendment to the 2021 budget to promote youth employment – especially aimed at Agriculture but which could be extended to other sectors – and was rejected. We ask that the government group reconsider and launch this initiative.
For its part, the PP claims “that the Cabildo address the development of the Island Livestock Plan.” His counselor, Valentín González, recalls the plenary agreement in this regard of March 2020. He believes that “the Cabildo does not fully understand the importance of the primary sector in Tenerife, despite the fundamental role it has played during the pandemic.”
González Évora points out that “the proposal put forward by the Popular Party involved the development of a strategic plan to support the livestock sector, favor the commercialization of local production and contribute to professionalization.” Despite having the support of the Plenary, he adds “the motion has not been carried out at an untenable moment for farmers, strangled by production costs.” He considers that “the administration does not give an adequate response, which involves lowering the costs of animal feed and guaranteeing competitiveness under equal conditions.”
In addition, he concludes, that «The Slaughterhouse Insular de Tenerife (MIT) is a true public service, one of the main demands of the farmers in the face of a significant increase in tariffs ”.
