The PP marks the future of the pacts in five municipalities

The governance of the municipalities of Güímar, Arico, Granadilla de Abona, Arona and Guía de Isora pass (almost) through the presence of the Popular Party (PP) in the agreements that are being negotiated. The beneficiaries with the mayoralties in contention will be both the PSOE such as the CC and the PP itself, which would become present in five government groups in the municipalities of the South, where the Socialists are the most voted.

The most striking case is Arona, a municipality that is very likely to have a mayor. Fátima Lemes, for the PP (5), was the candidate with the most votes, with only 74 votes more than the CC candidate (5), Clari Pérez (4), and 313 more than Dácil Lion, head of the list of Más por Arona. The sum of these three parties guarantees an absolute majority, with one more than the 13 necessary mayor. The first contact has already taken place. Now, touch queries to the higher instances. The initial advantage is for the popular.

José Julián Mena (PSOE), mayor since 2015, seems headed for the opposition. The differences experienced with the four councilors of +PorArona, split from the Socialist Party and former members of the local government of the expiring term, make an agreement between the two improbable. To add, the two councilors of Vox and the mayor of Nueva Canary Islands, another ex-socialist. His chances of maintaining the Mayor’s Office go through his natural rivals, CC and PP.

Guimar.

The Popular Party also starts as a candidate for mayor with Carmen Luisa Castro from Güimarera, winner of the elections. His nine councilors (the majority requires 11 by increasing the plenary composition to 21) force him to start negotiations to seek a government majority. The five councilors of CC seem the most logical option, saving the personal differences between members of both parties. An agreement with the mayor of Nueva Canarias does not give the PP an absolute majority. The rest is the municipal left: PSOE (5) and USP (1). It seems unlikely.

Arico.

The two councilors of the PP could give an absolute majority to the six of the PSOE, which also looks towards the two of the Arico Somos Todos Platform, led by ex-socialists faced with the winning candidate of the elections. The other possibility of government in Arico happens because CC obtains the Mayorship with the support of Arico ST and the PP to its three councilors. The improbable thing is an agreement between socialists and nationalists.

Abona passion fruit.

Yesterday it seemed possible that PSOE (10) and PP (2) reach an agreement in this municipality. The key is in the differences between the popular councilors and their ex-colleagues integrated in CC (10). The absolute majority is in 13 councilors, just those that add PSOE and PP. Nationalists and popular would lack a councilor to reach the necessary majority to govern. The fourth party in contention is Vox (2).

Isora Guide.

The loss of the absolute majority of the PSOE makes it possible for the PP (4) to hand over the Mayor’s Office to CC (7). It would be the end of a stage of socialist governments that began in 2015.

But everything depends on a negotiating process at the supra-municipal level already opened by the political formations involved. Emilio Navarro, insular president of the PP and mayor of Santiago del Teide, who achieved his objective by increasing the absolute majority until obtaining 13 of the 17 councilors that make up the City Council. “The neighbors thus recognize the management of a project that we started eight years ago and that, if there is no setback, we want to continue completing the transformation of the municipality that we began in 2015.”

Juan Ramón Martín is one of the winners of election night. The mayor of Arafo obtained, with the candidacy of CC, 10 councilors, the largest number of those that any party has achieved in the democratic stage. He surpasses the historic Domingo Calzadilla, who obtained nine mayors in 2003 with the Popular Party. «Aware of the result, we appreciate the vote of confidence of the citizens and we assume with great responsibility the task that this entails. We will continue with the roadmap that we started in 2019 and for this reason we will advance in sports, cultural, social infrastructures, citizen participation, the promotion of agriculture… Thank you to the neighbours”.

In his second consecutive absolute majority, Arturo gonzalez (CC) adds 13 of 21 councilors in San Miguel de Abona. “A joy, a satisfaction and a commitment to the neighbors that makes us continue working so that San Miguel continues to be the best place to invest and live.”

Luis Javier González led the PSOE in Fasnia for the first time. He won with an absolute majority (8) – a councilor rose – against CC (3). «The people support the generational change that is already consolidated in the PSOE. We are clear about the municipality we want.”

In case of Jose Miguel Rodriguez Fraga it is singular. His ninth absolute majority with the PSOE will lead him to turn 40 as mayor in 2027. «We will implement all the planned projects with a new government group full of enthusiasm and great objectives. I thank all those who have voted for us and all the people who have participated in these elections by voting for any other political option. Four years full of challenges and opportunities for Adeje begin », he declared.
