The El Til Neighbors Association, in Casas de la Cumbre (Anaga), has been fighting since 2015 for the Santa Cruz City Council to exercise its right and recover the premises that the association has assigned for more than 30 years, and that, after the change of directive, six years ago, was claimed by one of the heirs of the original owner who donated it to the Town Hall, and it was ‘kidnapped’ for use by the neighbors. Now, and after a multitude of claims, the latest information that comes to them from the Municipal Heritage area, in response to a question from the Socialist councilor, Florentino Guzmán Plasencia, is that they have passed the file to the municipal legal services to initiate the actions timely.

And, according to the president of the El Til Neighborhood Association, Juan Herrera, “until 2015 there was no problem. However, with the change in management, the previous president refused to give us the keys to the premises, claiming that there were doubts about their ownership. We had to go to court to have our right to access the directive recognized, and that was about six months, time in which the situation took hold, and since then we have been suffering this situation that violates our rights and those of our own. City Hall”.

Herrera does not hide his discomfort with the Santa Cruz City Council, which he considers solely responsible for this surreal situation. “They have abandoned their duties, because they would have had to change the locks and give us the keys, and for the other person to report to the Town Hall. In all these years they have turned a deaf ear to a legitimate claim, which is none other than the return to the neighbors of a municipal patrimony that is being occupied by a private individual ”.

The president of El Til does not rule out that the association goes to court and sue the Santa Cruz City Council since, in his opinion, it is solely responsible for the premises remaining closed by not exercising the right to dispose of its assets.

At this time, the 130 residents who live in Casas de la Cumbre can use an alternative premises that the Socialist Government team came to prepare so that they could have it while the process began in Heritage to recover the original premises. A process that, two years later, seems to have not advanced enough to recover the neighborhood space.
