SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 29. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Secretary General of the Canary Islands Coalition (CC), Fernando Clavijo, has made a brief assessment of the advancement of the General Elections to next July 23, announced today by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and has admitted that he does not know if “the country is prepared for another electoral campaign”.
“We have not finished this campaign and we are starting with others”, Fernando Clavijo pointed out in statements to ‘Radio Marca Tenerife collected by Europa Press, adding that now it is time to “reflect a little” after the announcement by the President of the Government.
Asked about the possibility that Nueva Canarias and Coalición Canaria could run together in the next General Elections, especially after the leader of NC, Román Rodríguez, has been left out of the autonomous Chamber, Clavijo has said that it is still early for to be able to do any analysis in this regard.

This Monday, the Canarian Coalition will hold a meeting of the National Executive Committee to analyze the results of the Local and Autonomous Elections in the Canary Islands, in which the nationalists obtained a total of 19 seats in Parliament, which would allow Fernando Clavijo to once again be president of Canarias, to manage to close agreements to reach the majority.
“It seems that everything indicates that yes, that there are possibilities [de volver a ser presidente]”, has admitted Clavijo, who indicated that they are already collecting all the data to carry out an analysis and overturn the entire electoral program “to propose to the citizens not a government, but a program for the next four years, which are going to be complex in Canary Islands”.
The nationalist leader does not hide that the results obtained yesterday have given him “strength and optimism” and reflect that the Canary Islands “has voted for change.” In this sense, Clavijo makes it clear that the Pact of Flowers “has been punished at the polls” and voters have chosen the Canary Islands Coalition as a “lever” to “articulate a government of change.”
According to Fernando Clavijo, this involves speaking with other political formations such as the Popular Party (which has won 15 seats), the Gomera Socialist Group (with 3 seats) and the Independent Herreña Group (with 1 seat) to achieve “a stable majority.” In this regard, Clavijo has insisted that “strong institutions” are needed because “complex years are coming and we have to be there.”
