SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 28. (EUROPE PRESS) –

100% of the 2,943 polling stations in the Canary Islands have been constituted normally at 09:50, as reported by the spokesman for the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez, in his appearance at 10:00.

Julio Pérez stressed that election day in the Canary Islands has begun “without any incident or anomaly” and voting “runs normally.” Thus, he explained that the first polling station was set up on the island of El Hierro at 08:30 a.m. and the last one in La Gomera at 09:50 a.m., as there was a lack of ballots at a given polling station.

The counselor wanted to recall that the Government of the Canary Islands has put in place a security device made up of agents of the General Corps of the Canary Islands Police, together with the State security forces and bodies, and a specific device of the Emergency Service Canario (SUC), with more than a hundred ambulances.

MORE THAN 1.7 MILLION VOTERS.

Slightly more than 1.7 million people are called to participate in the municipal and regional elections on May 28 to renew the Parliament of the Canary Islands, the seven Cabildos and the 88 municipalities of the Archipelago.

In total, there are 1,777,638 registered voters in the region, of whom 1,616,173 are Spaniards residing in our country and another 161,465 are nationals of other countries with which Spain has a reciprocal agreement.

The spokesman for the Canarian Executive pointed out that until May 25 some 2,348 voters included in the census of absent Spanish residents had downloaded ballots from the Internet to exercise their right to vote and 56,971 have opted for voting by mail.

The town halls renewed in the municipal elections of May 28 will be constituted on June 17, the day on which all the mayors of Spain will be elected, according to the electoral calendar derived from the decree calling the elections.
