The NGO Sonrisas Canarias, based in Valleseco, in Santa Cruz, yesterday received 15,000 kilos of food from the first phase of 2023 from the European Union. As the NGO details, these are foods such as rice, soluble cocoa, canned tuna, meat, cookies, chickpeas, canned vegetables, spaghetti, macaroni, canned tomato and children’s jars of chicken and fruit.
Luis Febles, president of Sonrisas Canarias, points out that, for the first time, no milk or oil enters. “However, the oil, brought from the Peninsula, we have solved it with subsidies from the Cabildo de Tenerife, and it will be distributed among the users,” he explains. For milk and other products, “we will use Social Cards that will be delivered to the aforementioned families, as well as a complementary one for frozen products,” he adds. The families benefited from this first phase and included in the lists with the corresponding referrals total 897, which translates into 3,600 people.
