The team of IES Granadilla de Abona has achieved a honorary recognition in the prestigious national competition ‘CanSat Spain 2023’. The event took place in Granada and consisted of the simulation of a real integrated satellite inside a can soda.

The competition is an initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA) and in Spain it is coordinated by the ESA Office of Education and Space Resources, in collaboration with the Granada Science Park. In the Canary Islands, the competition has been promoted by the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The IES Granadilla team stood out in the Canarian phase, obtaining first position and thus ensuring their participation in the competition held in Granada, where they faced fifteen other teams from different parts of the national territory.

This achievement is a testament to the talent and dedication of the students of IES Granadilla de Abona, who demonstrated their skills in the space field and the ability to address scientific and technological challenges. We congratulate the entire team for their outstanding participation in ‘CanSat Spain 2023’ and for taking the name of their institute to the top in this national competition.

The ‘GranSat III’ team, made up of María Angélica Rodríguez Santana, Mateo Reyes Delgado, Marcos Estévez Morales, Pablo Delgado Medina and Carlos Cano Rivero, under the direction of Professor Félix Jonay Mayoral Gutiérrez, has excelled in the national CanSat competition.

A CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite embedded inside a soda can. The challenge for the students is to incorporate the main subsystems, such as power supply, sensors and a communications system, in such a small space.

During the national competition, the CanSats were launched using small rockets. Descending with a parachute, they began their mission, which included the execution of a scientific experiment, a safe landing, and the analysis of the data collected during the descent.

The participating teams had the responsibility of collecting, analyzing and summarizing the data obtained by their CanSats to present them to a jury.

The ‘GranSat III’ team has shown its skill and ability in this challenging contest, demonstrating excellent teamwork and a rigorous scientific approach. We congratulate María Angélica Rodríguez Santana, Mateo Reyes Delgado, Marcos Estévez Morales, Pablo Delgado Medina, Carlos Cano Rivero and their teacher Félix Jonay Mayoral Gutiérrez for their outstanding participation in the national CanSat competition.
