SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE/MADRID, May 26. (EUROPE PRESS) –

A total of 984,108 citizens have sent their vote by mail for the regional and municipal elections this Sunday, May 28, which represents an increase of 6.4% compared to the number of votes by mail admitted in the 2019 elections, which also coincided with the European ones, and that in the Canary Islands add up to a total of 50,402.

By province, Las Palmas accumulates a total of 28,098 votes and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 22,304.

The term for the deposit of votes ended this Thursday, according to the extension decision adopted by the Central Electoral Board (JEC) and Correos has reported this Friday that it has validated a total of 984,108 votes, but does not detail how many applications it has received.

As detailed by the state company, Andalusia is the community with the most admitted votes by mail, with a total of 201,375, despite the fact that this region only holds municipal elections. It is followed by Madrid, with 169,763 validated votes, although here two ballot boxes will be opened this 28M.

Behind is Catalonia, with 71,420 admitted votes by mail divided among the four provinces. In this case, only municipal elections are also held.

The rest of the validated votes are divided between Aragon (32,053); Castilla y León (71,420); Castilla-La Mancha (52,251); Extremadura (32,094); Galicia (52,469); Basque Country (58,064); Valencian Community (78,983); Asturias (25,658); Balearic Islands (20,383); Cantabria (13,730); La Rioja (9,617); Murcia (21,401); Navarre (1969); Ceuta (1,969) and Melilla (5,814).

THE CASE OF MELILLA

A separate mention is the case of Melilla, where a total of 5,814 votes by mail have been validated, while 11,727 requests were received during the term, so that almost half have been executed, as reported by Correos.

In addition, the state company has explained that it has applied measures in this autonomous city such as extending the hours of attention to the public in its offices, which have been open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Correos has also highlighted that 2,500 reinforcement contracts have been carried out, both for offices and for the delivery of shipments and the necessary tasks in logistics centers.

LOGISTIC DEVICE

For May 28, Correos will establish a special logistics deployment, made up of more than 12,000 professionals, including delivery personnel, offices and treatment centers.

When the polling stations open on Sunday, a first team of staff from the state society will deliver the votes in custody at the 60,587 polling stations distributed in the 22,916 polling stations of the 8,131 municipalities in Spain.

Another group of employees will deliver to the polling stations those votes by mail that could be received during the course. And another team will collect the so-called ‘third envelope’, with the final result of the scrutiny.
