SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 25. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The number two on the electoral list of the PSOE to the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Ángel Martín, has resigned this Thursday from all his positions after his arrest yesterday afternoon for an alleged attack on a manager of the San José football club Board.

This has been announced in statements to the media by the PSOE candidate for Mayor of Santa Cruz, Patricia Hernández, who wanted to send a “clear and forceful” message against violence and has recognized that the behavior of José Ángel Martín “was not exemplary”, hence his resignation.

“It is clear that in politics you have to be exemplary beyond the mitigating or provocations that could have happened. It is also clear that yesterday’s behavior was not exemplary and, therefore, José Ángel Martín has resigned from all the positions he holds or occupy when he takes possession of his minutes as councilor and the Socialist Party accepts them in a coherent manner,” said Hernández.

The candidate explained that on Wednesday afternoon they moved to the El Tablero sports center following a complaint from the neighbors, who claimed that the facility had been closed for more than a year and that they could not use it.

When the visit ended, they left the premises and José Ángel Martín expressed his willingness to go to the bathroom, at which point the alleged attack on a club manager occurred since the bathrooms are shared by the sports center and the soccer field.

Patricia Hernández, who appeared before the journalists surrounded by several members of her candidacy, pointed out that she has already contacted the family of the person affected, who had to be hospitalized with a fractured tibia, fibula and ankle, and has expressed her regret. and conviction for the facts, while it has been made available to them.

He also pointed out that he did not witness the events, which occurred when he had already left the facilities, and again insisted that beyond “provocations or mitigations” that Martín refers to through his lawyer, a political position must be “exemplary”. “The facts and the consequences are what they are, adults have to take charge of things that happen,” she added.

On the possible electoral repercussion of these events, he has valued the “exemplary” attitude of the PSOE and understands that Santa Cruz “knows what is at stake” this Sunday, “his future in four years” and maintains that the citizens know how to “clarify a specific problem of the facts of a person” with a political project that is “above people and acronyms”.

“The campaign is one of joy and illusion and there is no room for hot cloths,” he highlights.
