He port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is he third most efficient in Spain and the nineth among the 20 best in Europe, according to the 2022 Container Port Performance Index study prepared by the world Bank and the signature S&P Globalin its division dedicated to trade and supply chain.
The results of this study are based on the analysis of the average number of hours a ship spends in port from the time it docks to begin loading and unloading until it departs again. The less time they spend on these tasks, the more efficient the port infrastructure is. Positioned ahead of the port of Tenerife, among the Spanish facilities, are only the ports of Algeciras, the first in efficiency in Europe, and that of Barcelona in second position.
But not only in the European context, the port of Tenerife reveals its reality. According to the port efficiency index of the World Bank and S&P Global and in Europe-North Africa, our port maintains the 14th position in a ranking headed, in this case, by Tanger-Med, Port Said and again Algeciras and Barcelona .
The double administrative and statistical approach with which the document has been prepared aims to adjust the performance of each port and takes into account the different facilities in an equitable manner, evaluating and standardizing the different sizes of ships and container movements by stopover.
