The area of Citizen participation of the Council of Tenerife promotes a participatory process for the elaboration of the II Island Plan for Children and Adolescents that will mark the strategic lines of the coming years aimed at the children and adolescents of the Island. Within the project @conmivozmisderechos, organized by the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS) to make visible and promote the rights of children, a participatory workshop was held to collect the opinions, reflections and proposals for actions of the children. More than 600 boys and girls attended, from 5th and 6th grade of Primary School, coming from educational centers in the different counties. The island councilor, Nauzet Gugliotta, stressed that the meeting focused on finding out what a plan for this segment of the population consists of, its importance, and the actions that are promoted to meet the needs of these groups, as well as face the challenges of face to the future “An opportunity to collect their impressions, concerns and ideas for later assessment and offer care tailored to their specific needs”, he valued.
Involvement and awareness
The councilor of the Cabildo highlighted the involvement and the degree of awareness of the boys and girls, “who have shown great sensitivity to the issues and problems in their closest social environment.” In this sense, they demanded inclusive projects, demanded actions for colleagues with disabilityThey discussed ending machismo and bullying, regarding the importance of managing emotions or raised suicide prevention, among other issues that concern them. Gugliotta recalled that it is a parallel process to the recognition of Tenerife as Child Friendly City, granted by Unicef with the intention of being able to renew said badge and continue to hold it. The forum was also used to publicize this recognition and what it means for the Island to have it. Another workshop is scheduled to be held in June, within the project @conmivozmisderechos. Together with the voice of children and adolescents, by the Cabildo de Tenerife At this time, the contributions of entities, associations and administrations, among other organizations, that work with associations linked to boys and girls are collected. In total, in this month of May, 12 workshops have been carried out, with participatory dynamics, in the metropolitan area, and northern and southern regions. A specific session will also be held with the areas of the Cabildo and its public sector involved in this second plan with the intention of evaluating the previous one and analyzing the new lines of action.
