The Ariquero government accuses the local PSOE of “paying homage to their heads of the Cabildo”

Referring to the public position of Olivia Delgado, PSOE councilor, praising the performance of the island government in this matter, the ruling group pointed out that “the sad reality is that she needs to pay homage to Pedro Martín to stay in the Senate, she, and the spokesperson municipal, Airam Álvarez, in the Cabildo with a position of special trust ».

E First Arico. Mayor, Sebastian Martin, says he has not received “not a single word of support in these weeks of struggle” from any representative of the PSOE of Arico. At the same time, it highlights the “incredulity” with which the residents reacted “after dawn today (yesterday) with the news of the support of the Socialists for the Cabildo.” The councilor revealed that «today, the neighbor is clear that Primero Arico, Coalición Canaria, Partido Popular and Sí Podemos Tenerife, both at the island and local level, support the City Council’s claim, and that the PSOE of Tenerife and the PSOE of Arico, no.

Martín reported that he will attend the meeting called by the Presidency of the Island Corporation tomorrow “with a firm, but negotiating attitude”, after having received the support of “the vast majority of Ariquera society and, to a large extent, Tenerife society in the voice of many of its mayors, councilors, island councilors and regional deputies, as well as neighborhood associations, companies and other groups in the municipality.

Juan José Armas (CC), first deputy mayor, crossed out the alignment of the PSOE of Arico with the island government as “a true betrayal of his people and a demonstration of the opposition’s ignorance in this matter. They should know that this issue hurts the ariqueros, that this issue is not minor for them and that this rudeness of the PSOE of Arico is being lived in the town as when they put the landfill on us, which completely buried their electoral options.

The island government rejected the demand of the Arico tripartite to renew the agreement that compensates the municipality for giving up two million square meters to house the island’s landfill. Its counselor Javier Rodríguez explained to the Plenary, in June and last September, that no The agreement adopted by the same body (July 2020) can be applied to meet the request of the City Council, because a report from the Administrative Waste Service warns that two subsidies for the same concept are not authorized.

This refusal by the Cabildo is preceded by the slam of the door on other matters of vital importance. According to the local government, «the PSOE of Tenerife and that of Arico denied us the El Río dam, denied us the Punta de Abona hotel project, denied us the stoppage of the La Morra mills, and there was a court ruling and denied us any hope of having the General Plan ready – a document prepared by the Government of the Canary Islands – in the coming months. It seems that Arico is being attacked with the five plagues of the PSOE ”, affirmed Andrés Martínez (PP), second deputy mayor.

Along these lines, the also councilor for Urban Planning and the Environment denounced that the Socialist Party in Arico “is acting unconsciously, unfairly and with a ridiculous sense of political responsibility. They believe that the neighbors who vote for them are in Madrid or Santa Cruz, not in Arico, and the reality is that they are making a historical mistake that the people will not forget.

Olivia Delgado The day before yesterday he urged the mayor to prepare a “reasoned proposal, based on economic, environmental and health criteria” so that the Cabildo “can study” a new agreement that compensates the municipality for the damages generated by the presence and activity of the Tenerife Environmental Complex . In a statement, he defended “the will and attitude” of the island government and the Minister of Sustainable Development, Javier Rodríguez, to whom he attributed a position “of active listening and calm, against the childish and irresponsible behavior of the mayor.”

On October 27, 2000, the Plenary of the Insular Corporation approved the collaboration agreement for the purpose of which was to instrumentalize the final destination of the compensation for the location in the municipal territory of the solid waste treatment plant. In this plan, the carrying out of various operations aimed at the redevelopment and equipping of centers, the improvement of infrastructures on rustic land, the development of houses and the conservation of natural, historical-artistic heritage, etc. were contemplated. The contribution to the municipality was more than one million euros a year and up to a maximum of 10 million.

On August 22, 2001, the agreement between both administrations was formalized, being subsequently modified by agreements of the Plenary of the Cabildo adopted in 2004, 2005 and 2017. As of today, that agreement planned for the 2001-2018 annuities has expired, maintaining the need to compensate the municipality and its neighbors, explained the local government.

The Arico City Council currently receives around 730,000 euros from a second agreement, approved in 2010 and which is still in force. It so happens that of that amount, the Ariquera Municipal Corporation “has to pay just over 250,000 euros for the use of the landfill.”
