«The Socialist Party has left orphans of services to the elderly Tenerife». The Popular Party candidate for the Presidency of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, expressed this forcefully during a work meeting with a representative of the Official College of Social Workers of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. During this meeting, the Official College of Social Workers of Tenerife sent a document of proposals in the field of social policies. When addressing the situation of the elderly in Tenerife, Lope Afonso denounced “the cancellation, without proposing any alternative, of the only island intervention program with the elderly that took place just before the confinement due to the coronavirus pandemic”, and regretted that “a despite the fact that, both from other political parties As from society itself, the insular government was required to propose alternatives for care for the elderly, we have finished the mandate without having this essential instrument”.
Afonso announced that his government program “contains measures for the elderly, such as the preparation and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Care of the Elderly that addresses not only leisure, but care for the elderly from a global perspective.”
