The owners of the El Mojón Partial Plan land, meeting in assembly, have given their approval to the conditions proposed by the technicians of the Arona City Council included in the agreement in which the reception of the urbanization will materialize and which will be signed in the “next few days”, which will end with the blocking of one of the most sought-after land exchanges in the region and on the Island, and will open the door to the granting of licenses for new hotel, residential and commercial establishments.
In compliance with the obligation established by law to transfer a percentage of land for public use, the agreement includes the conditions of reception by the City Council, which include two municipal parks, recreational and sports areas, a treatment plant and a plot destined to a cultural infrastructure, in which the Consistory has already announced that it will build the Arona Arena, a space that will host fairs, congresses and shows. It is estimated that the total area of the assignment will exceed 150,000 square meters.
Municipal sources told this newspaper that the agreement was presented to the Compensation Board, a body made up of the owners, and confirmed its approval, which they described as “very important news” for the municipality, since it means ending a blockade of 23 years and will allow the creation of “thousands of jobs” thanks to a “very powerful” investment, in addition to the transfer of the two public parks of 25,000 square meters each and a cultural plot.
However, the Arona City Council will wait for the signing of the agreement to make more statements, indicated the municipal sources consulted.
It must be remembered that the area of the El Mojón Partial Plan covers an area of almost one million square meters between the southern hospital and The Christians. Several hotel chains, such as Spring, Marylanza and H.G., they have already moved to create new accommodation places aimed at a profile of “medium high” tourists. Some large multinational stores have also shown interest in settling in the area, such as the German firm Lidl.
The agreement is a necessary document to receive the urbanization, an essential requirement for the granting of licenses, prior technical report from each one of them.
After the favorable pronouncement of the owners to the document presented by the City Council, once the agreement is initialed this month, according to the municipal forecast, the next step will be the public exhibition of the document before submitting it to the vote of the City Council Plenary.
Sources from the Compensation Board already advanced during the technical meetings that the buildability would be limited to a third of the space and that it would bet on a concept of “friendly” architecture, with “large spaces and green areas.”
