Somos Tacoronte has just presented its candidacy, headed by Carlos Medina, and its electoral program. This new party, which emerged a few months ago, is the backbone of a group of neighbors who “from responsibility” have decided to step forward and commit themselves so that the City Council is up to the task of the population and defends their interests in any instance. Somos Tacoronte wants to be at the service of its citizens from that privileged position that gives it the autonomy and independence of not depending more than on the will of the people.

-Is it easy to excite a citizenry that has stopped believing in politics from the City Council?

“It is very difficult to excite people and tell them that there is another way of doing politics and that our people deserve it, that there are good people who want to contribute and others who should receive, in exchange for their taxes. From Somos Tacoronte we call for mobilization so that they go to vote and that they trust that we are different and we are not going to disappoint them. They know us because our project represents the day-to-day citizen, with his worries, obligations, worries and responsibilities. With us, confidence in their representatives will return, efficient, close, responsible management and with a clear vocation for service”.

-What X-ray do you do of the municipality?

“A municipality in decline, without a project after many years subjected to controversy and interference by supra-municipal political parties. Tacoronte is orphaned by people who represent and manage it with its neighbors in mind, far from the personal leadership and media recognition of social networks. A town where there is no talk of big policies, of the territory, of housing, of transportation, of maintenance of public spaces, of the commercial fabric. Neither of the needs of sectors as important as agriculture, livestock and fishing, which has given us our hallmark. A change in the City Council is urgently imposed and today only Somos Tacoronte can do it”.

-In this electoral call, nine parties are presented in Tacoronte, will it not divide the Plenary session more than it is?

“It is a high probability and that should be the subject of reflection by the voters. Given so much dispersion of the vote due to the lack of projects of all the political formations that have been in the municipal government, it is necessary to think about the useful vote more than ever. The experience of the multiple pacts to Tacoronte has not led to a lack of management, all of which is aggravated by the continuous external intoxication of these formations for reaching agreements and governments in other institutions, such as the Cabildo de Tenerife”.

-What grade would you give this government?

“A clear fail. It has not complied with its agreements or programs, it has turned its back on many people who voted for them and trusted their representatives, who have not been able to comply with the dissemination of the plenary sessions, citizen participation -only the regulation was approved- or with projects that revitalize the commercial area of La Estación, Los Naranjeros, El Torreón, San Juan-Perales or Agua García and Barranco La Lajas. And as if that were not enough, he claims not to have knowledge of the TF-5 expansion project, which is the most important matter of this mandate”.

-What are the main lines of your electoral program?

“We are Tacoronte aspires to restore the confidence of the neighbors in their political representatives. We are clear that good intentions have reached this far and we move on to action. We set clear objectives assuming deadlines for their achievement such as the operation of the City Council. We have detected that it all starts there, in the malfunction of the town house when it comes to serving its citizens and responding to their demands”.

-Is Tacoronte a safe municipality to live in?

“We will not be the ones to say that our town is not safe to live. But we do consider that the services that must be provided in terms of security are not being provided. None of the commitments of the current Government in this matter have been fulfilled and it is irresponsible. We believe in a local Police that is close and present on the street, that acts preventively in the neighbourhoods, that guarantees security at the entrances to schools and that is at the service of its neighbours, which is what this group really wants today, because he feels disappointed and demotivated by the eternal unfulfilled promises”.
