After the religious ceremony held in the church of La Concepción in Santa Cruz, the mayor presided over the delivery of a total of 49 medals for police merit, with gold and silver distinctions, one of them posthumously, in addition to two collective plaques for police merit. to two essential services and two other plaques to two units of the Local Police, in addition to a police merit medal with a silver badge to a citizen and two congratulations to others for their support for the functions of the force.
The mayor stressed that the celebration “has to do with the anniversary of a link that began 183 years ago and that today is still more alive than ever: the relationship of this capital with its Local Police, which has been fully fruitful.” At the same time, he valued that “these distinctions that are given are a recognition and reward police officers and commanders who have excelled or gone beyond the mere fulfillment of their work, and also collective medals and plaques to people and institutions outside to the police force whose collaboration and support has been fundamental in the past year”.
Bermúdez made a separate mention for the main commissioner of the Local Corps, Carmen Delia González, at the moment she announced her retirement after almost four decades dedicated to the Police, of whom she said that “she has had a professional career that has made her a pioneer among local police from all over Spain, since she was the first head of this body in the country”, adding that “she has shown a qualification beyond any doubt in countless situations in which her good work has allowed her to face them with the utmost rigor and professionalism”.
For her part, the main commissioner, who announced her retirement in her almost farewell speech, valued “the professionalism and work of all those who make up this Local Police” and also highlighted “the children’s traffic park to form to the future users of our routes, which has received the visit of 1,052 students, from Pre-school to Primary education”.
