Thousands of aroneros, aroneras and visitors of all ages accompanied the image of the Virgin of Fatima this Sunday during the pilgrimage held by Valle San Lorenzo. The mass prior to this traditional meeting left moments of great emotion among the devotees of Our Lady of Fatima, carried on the shoulders of the Parish of San Lorenzo to the rhythm of the folklore of the groups and parrandas while all the pilgrims crowded at the door of the temple to venerate the patron saint of the town and prepared to begin the pilgrimage to the viewpoint of La Centinela, a unique and spectacular point of the region that serves as the boundary between Arona and San Miguel de Abona.
Time accompanied. Under a blue sky, completely clear and with some heat, a total of 21 floats advanced along the main highway of the South (TF-28) among the neighbors who came dressed in traditional clothing. The origin of this pilgrimage dates back to 1950when the image of Our Lady of Fátima arrived in the town, but it was not until 1973 when it gained real strength until it became, today, the pilgrimage that represents the Valle del Ahijadero, already consolidated as one of the oldest of the municipality and the South region.
The Arona City Council has already requested that the pilgrimage of the Virgen de Fátima be declared an Asset of Intangible Cultural Interest (BIC).
