Canarian Coalition of Tenerife defends the intercultural character of the Island against the extremisms that have emerged in recent years at the political level. The head of the CC list to the Parliament of the Canary Islands for Tenerife, Ana Oramasand the candidates to the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz and La Laguna, José Manuel Bermúdez, and Jonathan Domínguez, respectively, held a meeting yesterday with groups of migrants and foreigners to analyze their situation.
Ana Oramas said that “we are with Canarians from around the world, who were born in countries like Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, among others. The Canary Islands and Tenerife are a land of tolerance and a crossroads of cultures. Our people were emigrants and that is why today All these people say that the Canary Islands must have the Canary Islands Coalition governing, those of us who have worried about them; for the people who are in Venezuela and those who have returned, for example”.
For his part, José Manuel Bermúdez indicated that “they are people who have come to our land, to Santa Cruz, from different continents. Some were not born here, but work and feel the city like us. It is important to know how they contribute to the improvement of our society. Santa Cruz has always been a tolerant, liberal city, where all people have a place regardless of their place of birth, sexual condition or religion. We want to maintain that liberal spirit that Santa Cruz has always had.”
Jonathan Domínguez indicated that “we have to make La Laguna a welcoming place where all people feel important and can contribute to the improvement of the municipality. We will continue to bet on projects that improve participation.”
