Gustavo Pérez became the first mayor of CC in Güímar on July 1, 2021 after an agreement with the PSOE to share, for two years each, the City Council baton. He is now running for re-election.

-With what feelings do you face this electoral campaign?
“Güímar has a great advantage, because its people know the way in which three of the parties that are running for election manage the Mayor’s Office: they know the members of their teams and also their way of working.”

-What summary do you make of your time in the Mayor’s Office and the pact?
“CC has a united team in Güímar, experienced and guaranteed to develop projects and find solutions to any problem. We have gone through all the possible circumstances within municipal politics and we have always presented coherent proposals. In addition, we have been loyal first to Güímar, then to the institution and always respectful and polite with the neighbors”.

-What measures of a social nature would you highlight?
“We work to improve the lives of our neighbors. Surely we will have made mistakes and we will continue to learn from them, but the data is there to be analyzed and taken into consideration: increased aid to the educational and youth community, constant support for our elders, daily reinforcement of our traditions, continuous campaigns of support for our business, the approval of the citizen participation ordinance, the constant promotion of our local products, the acquisition of land to project the future of Güímar… that is our job and our guarantees. In short, we have focused on people”.

-What projects do you consider key for the coming years in the municipality?
“They have to be marked by their viability. Staging ideas and last-minute occurrences is disrespectful to the neighbors. The viability of the projects is defended when the municipality is known from end to end, analyzing it, managing the budget, mastering the insular and regional infrastructure plans and other means of financing. Others are presenting projects on land that are not municipal, projects that the general plan does not contemplate, or what is worse, estimated in amounts that exceed the municipal budget without contrasting possible financing channels with the Cabildo or the Government of the Canary Islands. From CC Güímar we present projects with all the congratulations and we say openly that some can be done in one legislature and others in two. We are talking about a larger cultural auditorium, a multipurpose pavilion, a nursing home, a funeral home and projects to improve the coastline, among others”.

-How is the solution to put an end to spills in the Industrial Estate going?
“The definitive purification of the waters of the Güímar Valley is on the right track but it is a very slow process.”

-What do you think of the PP’s complaint about contracts for emergency works?
“The PP can go to the Prosecutor’s Office as many times as it wants. It is within his right and we already know his line of doing politics. I don’t have any worries. As long as reasoned and substantiated procedures are carried out, we will be working in favor of transparency. Everything else is political will to make noise and create confusion. I myself took a file to the Prosecutor’s Office that generated reasonable doubts ”.

-What message will you emphasize in this campaign?
“In respect, education and coherence. The people of Güímar are polite and respectful. Those parties that do not follow this line are wrong, because they do not represent our municipality”.
