SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 10. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Citizens candidate for the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Isabel Bello, has presented her electoral program for the elections on May 28, which “intend to improve the economy of the islands, the electoral system, access to housing, education or, for example, family reconciliation,” he explained.

One of the priorities for the liberal formation, explains Isabel Bello, is “the elimination of customs with Europe, which will facilitate electronic commerce with and from the islands, while importing and exporting for local merchants. With this suppression of customs administrative procedures would disappear, facilitating the arrival and departure of merchandise”.

Ciudadanos also proposes to establish a reduced VAT for the Canary Islands, just like the one in the Azores and Madeira. In this way the tax would be set at 5%, explains the liberal leader.

On the other hand, the orange formation is committed to the reform of the electoral law: “The low weight of Tenerife and Gran Canaria within the Parliament of the Canary Islands means that the residents of the capital islands suffer a comparative grievance compared to other canaries. That is why , in Ciudadanos we propose something as basic but as revolutionary as one person, one vote. It cannot be that 6,000 votes on a smaller island govern the Canary Islands because they are worth the same as 100,000 votes on a capital island. With this proposal we will create a single regional list to the Parliament of the Canary Islands in which the vote of all people, wherever they live, is worth the same”.

In relation to this, the liberal party proposes to end half of the parliamentarians, since “the creation of a single regional list would allow us to go from the 70 politicians that currently exist to 35. In addition, the possibility of exclusive dedication to all deputies, restricting it only to the spokesperson of each group with representation in the Chamber, while the rest will only receive allowances for attendance at committees or plenary sessions”.

They also believe that it is necessary to facilitate access to housing. For this, they will impose a tax deduction on the purchase and rental of housing for people under 35 years of age and large families or cohousing for the elderly as an alternative to residences, Bello said. In this sense, he explained that it is also necessary to promote social housing and this “does not entail building new houses, it is enough to execute the Right of Pre-emption and Retraction, a legal figure that already exists in the Spanish regulatory framework and that grants a right to purchase preference in favor of the Administration in housing transmissions”.

“In education, the Canary Islands are trailing behind. The 2019 PISA tests showed that we are the worst Community in science and mathematics. To deal with this, we propose allocating 200 million euros over three years to create a mentoring program educational courses in an intensive format and 100% online. This is a proposal that is very similar to the Mentores program, in which mathematics tutoring was carried out for different groups of students and a considerable improvement was obtained in their school results”, explained the candidate liberal.

In relation to families, Ciudadanos is committed to favoring work and family reconciliation: “We propose three fundamental measures: create a child scholarship that covers 100% of the cost of daycare centers, reduce 10 points of personal income tax for families with two or more children and open the infant and primary school centers during the holidays”.
