The Environment Area of Santa Cruz already has a preliminary study on the future area to dogs that would be enabled on the beach of the seagulls. The aforementioned report states that “it is viable to enable a area as beach for dogs, but with a duly marked zonal limitation both in access and the area on land and in the sheet of water”. This space would be approximately a quarter of the beach in the final area of the same, a point for which it would be necessary to condition an independent access from the entrance of the beach to the area enabled for dogs. An intervention that, according to the technicians, could be used to repair the existing wall along the rear area of the beach.
This beach would come to join the one in Acapulco, in Valleseco, where the presence of dogs is already allowed and which, as confirmed by the person in charge of the Environment Area, Carlos Tarife, will also have a specific project to delimit the specific area from the beach that would be enabled for pets, since now their presence is allowed in the entire space. Thus, the technicians detail that this part would be approximately one third of the beach, in the area of the channel of the ravine. As in Las Gaviotas, it would be a properly signposted area both on land and in the water.
In both cases, Tarife advances, the projects will be submitted to a public consultation so that citizens can express their opinion on them.
new spaces
The will of the City Council in this matter, to enable spaces for pets on the beaches of the capital, has also led to the preparation of a technical feasibility report on the rest of the points on the coast to find out if it would be possible to have areas for dogs . Thus, from this analysis, the technicians have concluded that another five points could be enabled for pets.
The first one mentioned is the Añaza wharf, where it was established that it would be viable, but with time limits. Another area that could house a space for dogs is the future area of Charcos, still under construction, in which, although the technicians establish that it is not viable because the planned configuration will not be suitable, they point out that an area next to the dock should be studied. of coal ships.
A third will be located in front of the Castillo de San Andrés. Here, the report points out that, although it is not viable, since it is categorized by the City Council as for dangerous use, since it now has a semi-submerged dam, this category should be reviewed.
Thus, it indicates that “it is a newly created area when the San Andrés dam was built, in front of the castle and next to the mouth of the ravine. The area of the Muellito would remain for the exclusive use of people. However, it has the drawback of not having a conditioned access”.
A fourth option is that of the Igueste de San Andrés beach, where, although bathing is still prohibited until the outfall is repaired and the water is suitable for bathing (the works are currently being completed), “it is viable to allocate a part of it, approximately a third, for pets, with duly signposted zonal limitation.
The last viable area returns to Las Gaviotas, specifically to Playa Chica, which is located after the parking lot and below the existing parking lots in the area. Classified as dangerous use by the City Council, access would have to be made with dogs occupying a third of the beach.
