SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The medical union has announced this Tuesday that it resumes the call for an indefinite strike starting on May 19 and demands the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, as the “sole interlocutor” in the negotiations with the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS).

The decision is made, according to CESM Canarias in a statement, following a meeting with the director of the SCS, Elizabeth Hernández, within the framework of the agreed conditions for the temporary suspension of the strike and in order to sign the final agreement , which basically consists of labour, organizational and remuneration improvements.

These measures, they indicate, should constitute one of the fundamental actions that encourage the Government of the Canary Islands “to solve the serious crisis that public health has suffered in the Canary Islands for too many years, motivated, among other issues, by the lack of medical personnel.”

Thus, given the refusal to reach a “minimally satisfactory” agreement, they point out that they are “forced to reactivate” the strike and with the “firm determination” to maintain it until 100% of the demands are met.

“We have reached the limit, given the multiple opportunities that the administration has been given to negotiate with us and that have been responded to with evasions and indeterminacy in the measures,” they comment.
