SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 9. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Pedro Martín, president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and candidate for re-election by the PSOE, has guaranteed the consolidation of the Canarian Wrestling School of Tenerife after a working meeting with representatives of the Tenerife Wrestling Federation in which he has advanced that will create a collaboration agreement that ensures the continuity of the school.
This was created in 2021 under the insular mandate of Martín with 300 boys and girls and an investment of 100,000 euros.
The main objective of the Escuela Insular de Lucha Canaria is the promotion and development of this vernacular sport at an early age, so as to reinforce the current structure of the clubs while encouraging their creation in those municipalities where that do not yet exist, details the PSOE in a note.
The meeting was attended by a large group of young people together with their families plus Nira Fierro, regional deputy and secretary of Organization of the PSOE Canarias; the insular councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, and the insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, members of the Tenerife PSOE candidacy for the Cabildo.
The meeting also served for the president of the Tenerife Wrestling Federation, Jeremías Hernández, to confirm Pedro Martín’s commitment to continue supporting the clubs in Tenerife.
He also recalled that Canarian wrestling is a sport that “has suffered a lot” with the pandemic and that now, with the encouragement of the Insular School, “the base is gaining strength again, something that must be consolidated in the coming years.”
In addition to the continuity of the Insular School through an agreement that will be worked on jointly with the Federation, the Cabildo has promoted and will continue to promote the set of activities around the ‘Cabildo de Tenerife Games’ programme.
With it, it is possible to consolidate the grassroots league with specific support that is intended to carry out coordination and arbitration, the annual cost of which is about 11,000 euros, say the Socialists.
Different sports programs have also been promoted during this term, such as ‘Lo nuestro en tu centro’, aimed at students of the island’s Secondary Education institutes, which includes a workshop for the dissemination of the Canarian Wrestling, which included a budget of more than 44,000 euros.
In addition, a new line of subsidies has been created with 130,000 euros to promote the recovery and development of autochthonous and traditional Canary sports and motor games in Tenerife.
