SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 8. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Sustainable Development and Fight Against Climate Change area, has opened a tender for the installation of 52 composting points in 12 municipalities of the island for which 528,503 euros will be allocated.
This initiative is part of the ‘Circular Communities’ project aimed at recycling bio-waste at source through home and community composting, which is being carried out in collaboration with the municipalities of Arico, Arona, Buenavista, Candelaria, Granadilla, La Laguna, La Matanza, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Tacoronte, Vilaflor and Santiago del Teide.
This project includes other actions for a total amount of 1,332,993 euros, including the drafting of projects, supply and installation of compost bins, technical management of existing facilities and training and community revitalization to encourage citizen participation, reports the Cabildo in a note.
The aforementioned compost bins will be used for the comprehensive management of bio-waste through community composting, which would obviously benefit the inhabitants of the municipalities, because this would contribute to a reduction in the organic waste generated on the island of Tenerife, as well as to the use of the resulting compost.
The corporation estimates that almost half of the waste generated in homes is organic waste, mostly food waste, and with this process the amount of waste dumped into the collection system is reduced, and with it the environmental impact that these processes (collection and treatment) generate.
The purpose of these facilities is to promote the reduction of waste by promoting its recycling, as well as reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
In the current phase of the project, the town councils are already being asked for their approval for the installation of said points.
This action is financed by part of the call for subsidies to support the implementation of waste regulations within the framework of the 90% Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
