Pedro Sánchez announces 20% guarantees in Tenerife for the purchase of a home for young people and families with dependent minors

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has announced this Sunday in a pre-campaign act in Santa Cruz de Tenerife the granting of guarantees of up to 20% for the purchase of a first home for young people and families with dependent minors. The measure will be approved this Tuesday at the next Council of Ministers and is intended for young people up to 35 years of age and with incomes of up to 37,800 euros per year.

“If during the health emergency we endorse the self-employed and companies, during the housing emergency we are going to endorse our young people and families with better dependents who want to access a home that they own”, defended the president.

This weekend he has held two rallies in the Islands. Specifically, on Saturday, together with the socialist candidate for the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and former Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands and the candidate for the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Augusto Hidalgo, participated in a rally in which lamented the current situation of young people in Spain with regard to housing and emancipation: “It is not acceptable or acceptable for Spanish youth to become emancipated at the age of 30 and not at 20, as in other parts of Europe.”

One day after these statements, Sánchez announced the new aid and reiterated his commitment to “put housing at the center of our priorities.” He assures that the initiative will help those who have difficulties “to be able to get a mortgage and buy their home”, such as young people and families with minors, with the aim that more and more people can access the purchase of decent housing.

The income limit to be able to access this aid will double in the event that two members of the couple or family purchase the home together and that the age limit will not apply in the event that they have dependent minors, they report. PSOE sources. It will also have improvement factors based on the number of children and an upper income limit in the case of single-parent families.

The initiative to promote access to home ownership by the youngest citizens comes just a few weeks after the approval of the Housing Law, which establishes housing as a right for the first time, seeks to give a break to the cost of rents and redefines what a great landlord is. The law also comes into force at a time when the sale of houses has fallen due to the rise in interest rates, which has further maintained the pressure on rents.

The president recalled that the Ministry of Defense is going to cede land for the construction of 20,000 subsidized homes, of which 300 will be on the island of Tenerife, he announced. The land that will be ceded to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, is located in the Engineers, Ofra Vistabella and La Cuesta barracks, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the PSOE later reported.

Sánchez said that the government’s policies show that from social democracy social orientation is compatible with economic growth and he was sympathetic that on the right they are “rabid” and resort to insults, because their alternative is “cuts and precariousness”. that they practiced since 2012. “We are demonstrating that socialists better govern the economy and social policies, we are knocking down the paradigms of neoliberalism and that is why they are angry,” he said.

3% of subsidized housing, compared to 9% in Europe

For Sánchez, these measures are necessary for Spain, with 3%, to reach Europe, where the average for subsidized housing is 9%, although he has opted to be at the level of Nordic economies such as Denmark or Sweden: “I I want Spain to become that, in a country that has 20% subsidized housing”.

This will be the “great national cause” for which Sánchez will summon “all Spaniards for the next decade”, as he has claimed. “We are going to put all the springs, resources and instruments at the service of that cause of decent and affordable housing”, he has sentenced.

Sánchez has made this announcement after reporting in recent days that he will promote a 50% discount on the European interrail and will launch a “Spanish interrail” with discounts on transport, both measures aimed at young people. He also recalled that the Council of Ministers will approve this Tuesday 560 million euros to reinforce public education.
