The Social Welfare Area of the La Laguna City Council has delivered to the public the diagnostic report on the situation of children and adolescents, a document that has been produced after a long work of data collection and assessments with all social sectors, from girls, boys and adolescents, passing through the families, the entities that work in this matter in the municipality and the municipal technical personnel.

Among the conclusions, the concern about bullying and cyberbullying stands out, which many of the participating minors report suffering and where they affirm that, on many occasions, they do not feel protected by the adults around them. Another major problem detected is drug use, which worries family members and social agents. In addition, it points to the lack of family conciliation and the lack of a sense of community.

As for what they would change in their neighborhood, they point out more green areas, and more and new meeting spaces for meetings or similar, as well as more cultural activities for whose design they are taken into account.

The evaluation process that has been followed for its preparation has included the provision of specific forms for all groups, the creation of the website www.pillalalaguna.es, with an exclusive space for obtaining data and evaluations, as well as a work day in which all the target groups participated, with differentiated questionnaires for each group.

This diagnosis constitutes the phase prior to the elaboration of the II Childhood and Adolescence Plan of the municipality of San Cristóbal de La Laguna (Pilla), which is expected to be approved at the beginning of the second semester of this year and which will be in force until 2027. A commitment to the rights and well-being of this important population group and with which La Laguna aspires to renew its recognition by Unicef as a Child-Friendly City.

The Councilor for Social Welfare, Rubens Ascanio, explained that this plan “is an instrument for planning, management and evaluation for the development of local public policies whose objective is to promote and guarantee the rights of children in the municipality and improve the access and quality of public services, especially in areas such as health, education, child protection and participation, counting on the involvement” of everyone.
