The PSOE candidate for Mayor of Santa Cruz, Patricia Hernández, is committed, as she already did in the last electoral campaign, to put shades in the playgrounds, as well as create shaded itineraries, all with the aim of preventing “spaces public expel the neighbors home because there are no points in which to enjoy them without burning in the sun.
Hernández announced this commitment precisely in the only shaded playground in the capital, the one on JR Hamilton street in Residencial Anaga, pergolas that, the PSOE candidate recalled, were placed when she was mayor.
“It is one of the permanent demands of fathers and mothers in playgrounds, athletes, the elderly and many other neighbors. The high temperatures expel them from their streets and public spaces”, explained Patricia Hernández.
Hernández’s proposal is complemented by the creation of shaded itineraries, preferably natural. These are planned routes that pass through shady places and are useful for those seeking relief from the sun and intense heat in the face of increasingly recurring heat waves. He also spoke of relocating street furniture that “in many cases is far from the little shade there is.”
Regarding the technical difficulties in providing shade for children’s playgrounds, such as the wind, which the current government team has alluded to, the former mayor assures that “technical difficulties, if any, can be resolved, it is not an excuse for do nothing”.
In those places where it is not possible to add natural shade with trees, the socialist candidate plans to put artificial structures such as awnings, sails or pergolas.
