Vanoostende discusses with those affected by the volcano a more flexible and participatory reparcelling draft

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, May 2. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands, Alicia Vanoostende, together with the General Director of Agriculture, Augusto Hernández, held a new information session on Tuesday (meetings that will continue tomorrow) to explain the new additions and specifications of the draft of decree law of land consolidation for the reconstruction of the banana plantations affected by the lava.

The regional head of the area discussed with the victims the details of a highly participatory and flexible document that includes the contributions and opinions that those affected have raised in the numerous meetings held in recent months in La Palma. Vanoostende explained that the plots affected by the new roads will be computed as they were before the construction of the roads, with a plot equivalent to the initial surface.

Likewise, he explained that another of the novelties raised in the document affects the compensation for expropriation of the plots. “For the residents who decide not to adhere to the reparcelling and the plot is expropriated, we propose the possibility of enabling a compensatory aid to the owners of that exploitation for the loss of means of production (sorriba, irrigation, ponds, tool rooms, among others), that is, a complementary compensation to the expropriation and thus provide a solution to the requests that have been transferred to us”, he highlighted.

Another of the points of interest included in the redistribution draft is linked to work on the edges of the castings: “We propose that the areas on the edges of the castings be removed so that people who consider it can work and do not have to to wait for the execution of the project; it is important to establish in the decree that the Normality Management Agency, which is the competent authority in matters related to the execution of the reparcelling, can modify the plan to adapt it to the real needs of the moment and be more flexible, always based on geological conditions”. “In the aid of the PDR measure 5.2, which we will solve this week with funds of 27 million, it also contemplates a budget for certain farms on the verge of pouring that can begin to be reconstructed,” he specified.

On the other hand, the head of Agriculture explained that the Ministry has an order with Gesplan to provide personalized attention and prior appointment so that those interested and affected by the reparcelling can present their particular case.
