LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA, 29 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Maritime Rescue has located and rescued today Saturday two boats with a total of 101 people on board that were sailing towards the Canary Islands and that were transferred to Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and the La Cebolla pier (Lanzarote), according to official sources. of the public body and the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2.

At around 8:30 a.m., the Maritime Rescue Center in Las Palmas received a notice from 1-1-2 Canarias reporting the reception of a call from a boat and providing the position given by its occupants, 10 or 12 kilometers from Puerto del Rosary beads.

The Center mobilized the salvamar ‘Izar’, which at around 10:00 a.m. reported that it had sighted the patera and that it had begun approaching maneuvers. Twenty minutes later, it proceeded to rescue its 52 occupants, all sub-Saharan Africans.

With all those rescued on deck, the salvamar headed for Puerto del Rosario, where the medical device deployed on the dock, made up of personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) and the Spanish Red Cross, was in charge of providing them with assistance.

Regarding the second vessel, at 10:15 a.m. the Maritime Rescue Center in Las Palmas received another notice from 1-1-2 Canarias announcing that they had received a call from a small boat without giving its position, but that it had entered through the repeater from Haría (Lanzarote).

The Center mobilized the ‘Al Nair’ salvamar and contacted the vessels that were in the area in case they could provide more information. Minutes later, the Civil Guard reported a suspicious echo stopped and gave its position.

From the Coordination Center it was diverted to the nearest boat, the ‘Golden Karoo’, which later confirmed that there was a wooden boat with many people on board, without being able to specify the number. She was instructed that she remain as an escort until the arrival of the Maritime Rescue unit.

At around 11:20 am, the salvamar ‘Al Nair’ sighted the boat and began the approach maneuver, rescuing a few minutes later the 49 people on board, all North Africans. The salvamar took all those rescued to the La Cebolla pier, where they received medical assistance.
