The candidate of United Yes We Can (Izquierda Unida-Podemos-Sí se puede) to the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Ramon Trujillo, has proposed a parking policy for the municipality that has three lines of action; a “coherent” proposal with a “sustainable and, at the same time, realistic” mobility objective.

In the first place, the progressive formation highlights the need to generate parking spaces for residents in areas such as the neighborhoods of El Toscal, La Salud, Ofra or Los Gladiolos. This must be complemented by promoting rotating parking in commercial and administrative areas and, likewise, with the use of removable high-rise car parks, which will be made possible by the next General Plan, and which must be located close to access to public transport.

Secondly, Ramón Trujillo undertakes to implement direct management of the Plaza de España car park, taking advantage of the fact that the concession ends in 2025, and extending this public management model to all car parks where possible. According to the candidate, this measure makes it possible to reduce rates and, at the same time, increase municipal resources; it is also a guarantee that there will no longer be thousands of parking spaces in Santa Cruz charging illegal fees, as has been the case for years.

Thirdly, the spokesman pointed out that there will be no sustainable mobility if public transport is not developed, with the 26 kilometers of bus-taxi lanes planned, and bike and personal mobility vehicle lanes. “Only by developing a mobility offer that consumes less energy and less urban space would parking needs be reduced,” he said.

Trujillo recalled that the energy consumption of private and commercial transport increased by 34% in the municipality, between 2008 and 2019. “Therefore, we are not advancing towards sustainable mobility, but increasing the fragility of our economy in the face of foreseeable future increases in prices.” energy prices. The current policy exports the worst face of unsustainability and energy waste to the future of the current young generations”, he stated.
