As reported by Intersindical Canaria, the Urbaser staff strikemanager of the solid waste collection service in candlemaswas called off thanks to the fact that the company accepted on Thursday, one day before the start of the strike, an agreement to update the salary tables of workers frozen since 2019.
The works council expresses that “it has been a complicated negotiation, although we do not fail to understand, the precarious situation that the company has assumed in these twelve years, in which it has carried out the cleaning of Candelaria, with a contract expired in 2011. Therefore, we want to thank Urbaser for the effort made to meet the agreement on Thursday afternoon”.
Shortly before that meeting, the municipal plenary session approved the rise of 5.8% of the CPI to the Urbaser contract with the City Council, although this fact, according to Airam Pérez Chinea, mayor of the Treasury, has nothing to do with the negotiation between the company and workers .
However, from Intersindical Canaria, the involvement of the mayoress Mari Brito and the councilor Pérez Chinea is appreciated, “by mediating from the beginning so that we could reach an understanding between the company and the committee, in addition, with the commitment on the part of the mayoress that the bidding for the garbage contract will be carried out in a short space of time”.
There will be no strike, but now it remains to negotiate a new collective agreement, a commitment made by Urbaser with the union representation.
