United Sí Podemos has denounced the Popular Party before the Electoral Board of the La Orotava Zone for the use of public resources of the Los Realejos City Council for electoral purposes, breaking the institutional neutrality that should preside over the actions of the public powers.
In a statement, United Sí Podemos details that these are two complaints. The first exposes the use of a municipal premises, the Casa del Emprendedor, for the presentation of the candidacy of the PP. The left-wing coalition understands that it is an act carried out before the start of the electoral campaign in a space to which the rest of the parties do not have access, which violates the principle of equality, in addition to the dissemination of a poster in which the vote is requested indirectly.
The second complaint focuses on the actions of the Los Realejos City Council, governed by the PP with an absolute majority, which has published news in the institutional media where the achievements of the government group in these four years are disseminated, in addition to following carrying out inauguration acts and presentation of activities, contrary to the provisions of the electoral legislation.
According to the note, the actions of the PP “clearly violate” the provisions of articles 50 and 53 of Organic Law 5/1985, of June 19, on the General Electoral Regime, which prohibits the performance of acts outside the campaign period and the carrying out by the public powers of actions that could break the necessary institutional neutrality from the time the elections are called.
The representative of United Sí Podemos in the Electoral Board of the Zone, Sergio Siverio, points out that “it is unacceptable that the PP is using the public media of all for its electoral benefit, with actions that are clearly contrary to the current electoral legislation and that we hope may be prohibited by the electoral board so that institutional neutrality is respected”.
Siverio states that “we have asked the electoral board to prohibit the aforementioned acts, in a precautionary manner in the case of the presentation of the candidacy, together with the obligation to cease this type of conduct in the future and to publish the resolution that it issues. the electoral board in all the means available to the city council, in order to guarantee equality before the electoral process”.
“This is a habitual behavior of the PP, which acts as if it owned the town hall and will do whatever it takes to win the next local elections, but this cannot be done in any case with actions that are clearly contrary to the current legislation”, says Siverio.
