The Council of Tenerife extends your device against fires throughout this year. It was the agreement reached unanimously last Thursday in the Plenary Commission of the Natural Environment at the initiative of the Popular Party adviser, Valentín gonzalez Evora.
Specific It is proposed to “implement and expand the device of the 2023 island campaign due to the effects of climate change and the increased risk of large forest fires.” The bet for this is to increase the resources and staff of the island corporation to avoid possible privatization through outsourcing.
Valentín González argues his proposal: “Fires in our community are becoming more frequent, like near misses, both in the summer and during any other time of the year.”
Hence the PP consider the measure with the aim of guaranteeing the operation of emergency resources throughout the year. Throughout this mandate, the Cabildo de Tenerife has repeatedly ruled on the need to reinforce the operation against forest fires, through institutional agreements, to implement issues such as preventive work and the preparation of forest masses.
Also complete the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (Pemus) as fundamental tools against forest risks, give continuity to the Sustainable Forest Plan or urge the State government to comply with the agreement adopted in the Senate on October 30, 2020 in relation to various measures to complement the means of extinction of forest fires.
González values: «The mountains, regardless of their ownership, They perform an important social function, both as a source of natural resources and support for economic activities, and as providers of multiple environmental services»
The recognition of these resources, adds the counselor, “from which all of society benefits, obliges public administrations to ensure their conservation, protection, restoration, improvement and orderly use.”
Given these circumstances, the Cabildo agrees to extend the device of the 2023 island fire campaign to the whole year.
