Rosa Dávila candidate for Canarian Coalition to the Cabildo, yesterday challenged the insular president, Pedro Martín, to a debate in which to address the measures he proposes to alleviate traffic queues in Tenerife. He reaffirmed the possibility, which he raised last Monday in the EL DÍA forum, of seeing positive results “in 90 days.” With barely half an hour apart – first Martín and then Dávila – they presented their candidacies for the elections on May 28 before the Electoral Board.
Dávila insisted on evaluating his list to “recover the leadership that Tenerife has lost.” He presented it together with a few members of the candidacy – in the face of the massive presence of the Socialists – including number 2, José Miguel Ruano, and Nuria Aguilar, a member of the legal service of the Canary Islands Coalition.
Face to face
The CC candidate proposed this face-to-face debate to Pedro Martín. She valued: “If Martín understands that the only solution to unblock Tenerife is to build roads, he has not understood anything.” He showed his surprise because he himself “paralyzed the third rail of the TF-5 for 28 months”, when “it has to be a reality with the consensus of all”. Dávila believes that “it is necessary to confront ideas” and stresses that she is not willing “to sit idle, when in 90 days decisions and measures can be made to alleviate and mitigate the impact that queues have on thousands of people every day.”
The nationalist candidate considers that “this is one of the big problems in Tenerife.” She acknowledges that “there are no unique solutions and, of course, the infrastructure and trains will be in the medium term, but I want to act immediately.”
Engineers college
“We can do it (the debate) in the media or in a neutral site, such as the College of Engineers.” Rosa Dávila assured it at the time of the challenge to Pedro Martín. Precisely this week, Luis Gutiérrez, from the Mobility Committee of the Official College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports, endorsed Dávila’s thesis to a certain extent in statements to Cope. He spoke of “complementary actions” that “will be necessary.” He qualified that “of course, they cannot replace investments in infrastructure, but all help is little.” He delved into the idea: “Above all, if it serves to raise awareness among the public and the institutions involved that they must contribute and pitch in to try to solve this problem.” He valued that “this solution lies in the change of chip, in other mobility options, in using other types of possibilities in the matter.” He concluded: “We shouldn’t criticize them – Rosa Dávila’s proposals – although clearly they are not going to solve the problem by themselves. From the College we would like to do our bit so that they can develop.
“exciting”
Dávila once again highlighted in this forum the qualities of each and every one of the 31 people who accompany him on the list with whom he has designed “this exciting project, prepared to govern the day after winning the elections and recovering the leadership he has Lost Tenerife during these four years». He concluded: “We need to recover the Island and the Canary Coalition intends to redirect the health system, practically collapsed, the promotion of the construction of residences for the elderly and especially the challenge of creating employment because youth unemployment is a serious problem».
four more years
Pedro Martín, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, for his part, asked yesterday “to continue for four more years, which will allow the PSOE to continue the already begun transformation of the Island.” Martín had an impact on the area of island mobility before knowing the public order of Rosa Dávila. He especially referred to the framework that the agreements reached with the Government of the Canary Islands to promote highway projects. That is why he wants to continue at the head of the Island Corporation, “to see the fruits and continue in line with the work carried out in the mandate.” In this sense, he recalled that “now there are highway projects when, when he arrived at the Cabildo, they did not exist.”
“A Better Island”
“We have worked hard during these four years, which have been very difficult, but we left an Island with better data than we found, especially in terms of employment,” confirmed the PSOE general secretary in Tenerife. The island president added: “During this mandate we have addressed problems such as wastewater treatment to stop receiving sanctions from the European Union and put an end to an environmental problem.” And Martín explained: “Today the Island produces renewable energy like never before.”
“put order”
The socialist politician assured, before a large part of the men and women who make up his list and who accompanied him yesterday in his registration, that this mandate “has been intense work and we want to continue another four more years to see the fruits.” Years that, he indicated, “will allow us to bring order to the Cabildo de Tenerife, with the many companies it had (currently 69 employees), and the waste that we found upon arrival, in the year 2019.”
