SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Nursing Union, Satse, defends that Primary Care nurses, under an agreed protocol and within their area of competence, can be “autonomous” in patient care and in solving their health problems.

In this sense, she details in a note that she will always support any initiative that increases the problem-solving capacity of nurses, that guarantees the development of their skills and provides them with the necessary tools to exercise them safely.

The Nursing Union thus responds to the “discomfort” created among nurses by the statements made by the Canary Islands medical colleges that the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) “punishes” patients who are going to be cared for by a nurse in the health center as a result of the update of the +AP Strategy.

Satse rejects the questioning of the nurse’s ability to resolve pathologies or perform the triage/assessment of patients who come to the health center without a prior appointment and, once the assessment has been completed, refer them to the appropriate professional, if necessary. .

Moreover, they indicate, “this activity is daily and daily in all the health centers of the Canary Islands, with which the criticism leveled against the nursing professionals is not understood.”

Likewise, the union explains that the Nursing Management of Demand (GED) consultation, which includes the +AP Strategy of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), has been “operating with absolute normality” for 14 years in other autonomous communities.

Initially, they point out, it was born to reorganize demand flows but today it has become a program led by the Primary Care nurse to care for people with mild acute illnesses.

The union emphasizes that nursing is an autonomous profession, with its own body of knowledge, which develops its university career for four years and two more if a specialty is carried out, and that it works with and in teams made up of other health professionals for the benefit of the quality of care provided to the population.

The nursing prescription has also been questioned, forgetting that Royal Decree 1302/2018 regulates the prescription of drugs by nurses and midwives throughout the State and enables them to prescribe certain drugs, with a series of guides. clinics approved by the Ministry of Health, where it is regulated what type of drugs or medical supplies can be used and prescribed by a nurse, stand out.

CLINICAL GUIDES

For this reason, they once again urge the SCS to implement professional actions linked to the clinical guidelines for the care of wounds, burns and others.

In this sense, the union clarifies that nurses participate in the shared care of people’s health throughout their life cycle and in the different aspects of health promotion, disease prevention, recovery and rehabilitation.

Thus, she understands that “nurses must take their place, their powers and lead with legal coverage in all the acts they carry out, but not at any price and through confrontation between health groups”.

Therefore, they continue to demand that professionals be provided with tools so that they can identify the reasons for consultation that can be attended to autonomously by nurses, care for acute processes of nursing demand, with assessment, diagnosis, interventions and nursing activities. .

“Therefore, it is necessary that any initiative in Primary Care regarding the competencies of nurses and the needs of the population be debated and approved by the Sectoral Board of Health, something that the Canary Islands Health Service has not done with the Strategy +AP”, they affirm.
