SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 18 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands and candidate for the Presidency of the autonomous government, Manuel Domínguez, has announced this Tuesday the members who will accompany him in the regional candidacy of his formation to Parliament and among which stand out the autonomous deputy and pulmonologist Miguel Ángel Ponce, and the businesswoman from Gran Canaria Mónica Muñoz in positions two and three, respectively.

Domínguez has assured that he leads a list of men and women with “the ability to manage and a vocation for public service.”

In this regard, he stressed that the PP “is not going to cover quotas, it is not going to look at people based on whether they are men or women, if they live on one island or another or if they have more or less representation.”

In his opinion, “it is a list where the different sectors of society are reflected, backed by the professionalism and experience of those who make it up.”

“A clear example,” he continued, “is represented by Miguel Ángel Ponce”, a pulmonologist and spokesman for Health for the Popular Group in the autonomous Parliament, number two in the PP’s regional candidacy for the regional Chamber.

“Reversing the complicated health situation in the Canary Islands is one of our priority objectives, and for this Ponce has a fundamental role,” he said.

The PP candidate for the Presidency of the regional government recalled that, more than a year ago, his party presented a “Rescue Plan for the health and socio-health field, which the regional Executive has ignored, despite the alarming scenario presented by the sector on the islands and the data provided day after day by the health waiting lists”.

For Domínguez, “there is no doubt that Torres’ great failure is healthcare and social rights.”

On the other hand, Domínguez also emphasized the “complicated” economic situation of the archipelago.

“Today, the Canary Islands is poorer than in 2019, we have a GDP below that of 2019, the autonomous community with the highest poverty rate and the one with the highest percentage of families that cannot consume such essential products as meat or fish every two days,” he said.

“All this”, he pointed out, “indicates that the islands need greater action in terms of economic policy, and for this it is necessary to continue insisting on the need to lower taxes, the right circumstances exist to do so, the Canary Islands, in 2022, has raised more than 700 million euros compared to the 2021 financial year”.

DOMÍNGUEZ SAYS THEY ARE A “REAL ALTERNATIVE” GOVERNMENT

In another order of things, the popular president recalled that he continues to bet on incorporating into the ranks of his party people who come to politics for the first time, to new values, and to open the doors again to those who at a certain moment “fell they were disenchanted.”

For this reason, he has been “excited” with the commitment of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands, assuring that they are the “real alternative” of the Government.

“Our Plan to Govern, which we have prepared with the participation of groups and organizations from the 8 islands of the archipelago, reflects the authentic needs of our community, providing effective measures, agreed upon by the different sectors of society,” he concluded.

The PP of the Canary Islands has also confirmed this Tuesday its insular candidacies for the regional Parliament, led by Poli Suárez (Gran Canaria); Rebeca Paniagua (Tenerife), Astrid Pérez (Lanzarote), Fernando Enseñat (Fuerteventura), Elena García (La Gomera), Juan Manuel García Casañas (El Hierro) and Raquel Díaz (La Palma).
