Patricia Hernandez Gutierrez presented his candidacy for the mayor’s office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, accompanied by a multitude of people who overflowed the Ocean room (Maritime Park), to learn about the socialist proposals that will materialize the change of direction of the municipality. The event was attended by Ángel Víctor Torres, President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Héctor Gómez, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Pedro Martín, President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, as well as a broad socialist representation.

The candidate began her speech by thanking those present for attending the act and acknowledging “being excited and excited” by the new opportunity that the appointment on May 28 with the chicharreros and chicharreras represents. “No one is going to stop us,” she said, “there will be no defectors, no vote of no confidence, no army of trolls, no infographics that stop the change that this municipality and its neighbors deserve.” To which she added that “this is not the candidacy of the PSOE alone, but of all those people tired of unfulfilled promises for decades, of people who voted for another party or of disappointed former Hermoso voters.”

Hernández reiterated his clear intention to recover the mayoralty and put an end to “the ineffectiveness” in which DC has engulfed Santa Cruz de Tenerife. “They have accustomed us to politicians telling lies, saying hollow words slogans or seeing the same infographics year after year” ─ explained the candidate, referring to the multiple projects presented by CC since 2011 and which continue to be unexecuted as the promenade to Añaza, parking spaces or public housing works. In addition, he recalled the achievements achieved in just one year of socialist municipal management (2019) such as the Valleseco beach (the result of collaboration between the Cabildo, City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands), the installation of the only two elevators in the reform plan of houses in La Salud, the project of 21 theme parks, the 40 houses of El Tablero, among others.

A speech marked by the neighborhood demands collected by the candidate, such as the need to improve the cleaning service or create parking lots in the neighborhoods of Las Moraditas, Duggi, La Salud or Las Cabritas, among others. In this sense, Hernández recalled that the planning of the city involves advancing in the creation of parking spaces, whose planning is already included in the PGO and which, however, have not been executed. “We are not resigned to the fact that you continue driving around with the car when you get home from work,” she stressed. In addition to adding the need to create an accessible municipality through the combination of elevators, ramps and escalators that save the slopes and unevenness of the neighborhoods and streets.

Within this land planning, he confirmed his intention to promote the construction of up to 500 public works homes in the municipality on a rental basis.

The carnival and its groups was another of the points referred to this morning. And he pointed out the need to dignify this party by recovering the dialogue with the groups from the respect that “all those people who are rehearsing for months to give us the best carnival in the world” deserve.

He did not overlook the need to rehabilitate public lighting, to protect and recover cultural heritage to make it available to Canarian creators or to rehabilitate the sewerage network at the cost of the company awarded the service, as well as triple the number of nursery schools.

Prior to the candidate’s intervention, the president of the Cabildo Pedro Martín spoke of her as the only one capable of “recovering the heart of the city whose slogan is the heart of Tenerife and turning it into the capital of all Tenerife”. Martín also recalled that the important collaboration between the Cabildo and the City Council ─ during the mandate of Patricia Hernández in 2019 – was key to promoting the Valleseco Beach project, when the environmental impact statement (DIA) was about to expire.

For his part, the current Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, pointed to the PSOE as the “reference party” and the candidacy in Santa Cruz as the “best” to achieve a new course for the economy and especially for the people.

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, pointed out that there are multiple reasons why Hernández should once again be the mayoress of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, including her commitment to the public sphere. “Not long ago, the purchase of some buildings from the city council with public money materialized. Buildings that Hernández obtained in 2019, while she was mayor, as restitution of the money from Las Teresitas. Public money for a public institution and that was thanks to the efforts of Patricia Hernández.”
