The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands has published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the start of the process of public information and consultation with the administrations and people affected by the project for the layout of the third rail of the highway TF-5 from Guamasa to La Orotava, a project promoted by the regional Executive to expedite circulation in the north of Tenerife and whose works will involve an investment of close to 300 million euros.

After passing the technical supervision of the Ministry, the layout project that was contracted for 1.8 million euros to a specialized joint venture, now begins the process of public exhibition and environmental authorization essential before the bidding for the works.

The project runs through the municipalities of La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria de Acentejo, La Matanza de Acentejo, El Sauzal and Tacoronte and has nine links over a length of approximately 17 kilometers, details the Ministry in a note.

With the publication in the BOC, the public information process begins, for the presentation of allegations, observations and consultations, for a period of thirty business days, starting this Saturday.

During this period, the project documentation may be consulted on the website of the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing, at the following electronic address: https://www.gobiernodecanarias.org/obraspublicas/carreteras/….

Likewise, copies in digital format of the complete project, the documentation collected in accordance with current regulations, as well as the relevant one received by the substantive body prior to the time of this public information, will be exhibited in the Ministry’s offices.

As the memory of this route project explains, the TF-5 motorway between Guamasa and La Orotava follows a winding route halfway up the slope, in a territory with pronounced unevenness and very tight curves and counter-curves.

PEAKS OF ALMOST 90,000 VEHICLES

In addition, according to the most recent capacity data, the TF-5 supports an average daily intensity (IMD) that in the section from the airport to Puerto de La Cruz varies between 66,000 and 88,000 vehicles and the high intensity of traffic linked to the agitation caused by the numerous entrances and exits cause the “serious problems” of congestion suffered by the TF-5, highlights the Ministry.

According to the order of the technical specifications of the contract, the intervention consists of providing the infrastructure with an additional third lane in each direction between Guamasa and La Orotava.

The need to study the existing links and their remodeling is also pointed out, so that a correct location and optimal design result in correspondence with the current layout regulations, allowing the introduction of new links, integration of existing steps or elimination of those that By alternative provision, it is convenient for road safety and better territorial transfer between banks.

The project also states that in areas where it is necessary, new service roads will be built or existing ones will be relocated, always taking urban planning into account.
