In this edition, the department headed by Javier Parrilla places special emphasis on training in agroecology and sustainability, as well as on marketing and marketing to ensure that the Island’s products have the best possible outlet.
The courses of the Agrarian Training Plan, which have a budget of 40,000 euroswill be developed in the twelve Agrarian Extension and Rural Development Agencies that exist on the Island. They will include courses, talks, theoretical-practical sessions, meetings, visits and demonstrations.
Regarding the agroecology and sustainability courses, the introduction to vermiculture stands out; organic cultivation of potatoes and olive trees; efficient management in avocado irrigation; the use of natural extracts to control pests and diseases and the implementation of renewable energy in farms.
In the livestock field, the courses will be oriented to the manufacture of cheeses and other dairy productsto the handling of food for this sector, to animal welfare in the transport of live animals and to the taker of milk samples.
The training agenda also includes nine courses related to the beekeeping sector, in which initiation to honey tasting is contemplated; organic beekeeping; the recovery and treatment of beeswax; the preparation of the hives for wintering or the organoleptic quality control of the honey.
Counselor Javier Parrilla explains that “this year’s Plan is the product of the active listening at the beekeeping and wine tables, as well as meetings and encounters with livestock associations. Parrilla highlights the courses on “pest control in livestock and agricultural management.” She also values ”with the aim of promoting female leadership in rural areas, specific ones for women in the management of agricultural machinery.”
