Arona will receive the Mencey Futurista de Honor for the most accessible and inclusive destination in Spain that the sector will deliver within the framework of the X National Forum for Entrepreneurs and Tourism Professionals in Spain (Futurism). It is the recognition of the work carried out in this area “and a commitment to improve for the future”, says the mayor of Aronoa, José Julián Mena, who will receive the award from Diego gonzalez Velasco, president of the Ibero-American Accessible Tourism Network, and the CEO and founder of Futurismo, Guacimara Magdaleno.
The mayor assures that this recognition is important for Arona, a municipality especially focused on issues such as sustainability and accessibility, key issues in management for years.
Currently, Arona It has an Accessibility Plan that has been sustained over time. This document, the climate, the adapted beaches and the accessible tourist offer for anyone “it has made Los Cristianos one of the favorite holiday destinations for people with reduced mobility”.

The history of accessibility in Arona dates back to 1957, when, led by a veterinarian of that nationality, a group of Swedish tourists suffering from multiple sclerosis arrived in Los Cristianos in search of a place to recover their health. Los Cristianos was a destination for health tourism and of Nordic origin, until from the 1960s onwards it became a pioneer in tourism in the South.
