The Candelaria City Council, together with the Canary Islands Young Entrepreneurs Associations (AJE Canarias), organized last night at the Cine Viejo Cultural Space, the Capitanas Club, an event that brought together pioneering businesswomen on the national and regional scene to discuss the economy , entrepreneurship and innovation in the business fabric.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, pointed out the importance of references in any professional field. “The youth need to know the names of these women and of many more who occupy positions of responsibility in companies, making visible the trajectories of the captains, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Sandra García-Sanjuán, Carmen García, María Victoria López, Rosset Achi, Sheila Trujillo and María Delgado, that make up the club in 2021. We contribute to progress and, furthermore, by bringing together these professionals, ideas and proposals for improvement and change will be collected based on the powerful experiences of each one of them. Candelaria continues to sow Equality and the Capitanas Club is one of the projects that reinforces the transversal work that is done from the Consistory ”, pointed out Brito. In addition, he recalled that 90 years of universal suffrage in Spain have been celebrated with the right of women to vote.
The president of AJE Canarias, Agoney Melián, in the press conference prior to the event, held at the CtCan, pointed out that “the most interesting component of this day is not only that female examples chat about the business world, but rather that talented people discuss the economic present, that they contribute innovative proposals that serve as an example to the businessmen and women of the Canary Islands and that allow the business fabric of our Islands to continue growing ”. Likewise, Melián defined himself as a “feminist”.
The designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada was delighted to be in the Canary Islands and “surrounded by mayors and councilors, which fortunately is already normal in this egalitarian country. I am very interested in what is going to be told in the Capitanas Club ”, he affirmed. The businesswoman Sandra García-Sanjuán (president of the group and the Starlite gala) highlighted the pride of holding the meeting on her home island, an activity that she described as “necessary to motivate, encourage and support at a time after the key pandemic to energize the economy”. For her part, Sheila Trujillo, president of AJE Tenerife, highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives such as the Capitanas Club, highlighting the inspiring aspect of the meeting.
Ágatha: “La Palma is an island that I love. I fell in love with her silk “
Dressed very Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, with the bubblegum color standing out over her unmistakable polka dots, with long socks and tennis shoes, the renowned aristocrat and designer was delighted to return to the Canary Islands. “This month I have three trips to the Islands”, although he made it clear that “the La Palma volcano, an island that I love, is a bastard”, remembering that two years ago he met her for the first time, when he fell in love of the silk of El Paso.
Ágatha said she was delighted to “contribute with this meeting to the entrepreneurship of women entrepreneurs, together with my good friend Sandra García-Sanjuán.” He also indicated that he owes much to the Canary Islands, because “thanks to Lanzarote and César Manrique, who came to wear my first designs, my family came out of bankruptcy”, when his father, the architect Juan Manuel Ruiz de la Prada Sanchiz (passed away in 2015 at the age of 88), promoted constructions such as La Santa, in Lanzarote, and other buildings in the south of Gran Canaria, islands where the now renowned designer spent part of her childhood. “My father always said that the Canary Islands saved his life,” he said.
