The Holy Week in La Laguna Yesterday he lived one of his great days with the celebration of Holy Thursday, which marks the beginning of the Paschal Triduum and the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples. Day in which the Church also celebrates Fraternal Love, and in which, in addition to the processions, the faithful came to admire the so-called Eucharistic monuments in the temples, which have quite a tradition in the municipality. The Pascual Triduum began with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the Cathedral, at 5:30 p.m., presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Nivariense, Bernardo Álvarez.
In the celebration, the focus is placed on three events that have their origin in the Last Supper: the institution of the Eucharist, the institution of the priestly order and the Lord’s commandment on fraternal charity, as explained from the Bishopric.
The mass also included the foot washing ceremony, which was performed by the bishop himself, a gesture of service and dedication to others like the one Jesus did at the Last Supper and which manifests the service and love of Christ.
At the end, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Monument was carried out and then, at about 8:00 p.m., the procession of the Holy Supper, made up of Jesus, an image by Rodríguez de la Oliva, and the 12 apostles left the Cathedral. , by Antonio de Orbarán, forming a set “of the oldest in the Canary Islands”, explained from the Board of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods (JHC). The step was accompanied by the brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament and the penitential section of the Holy Supper.
Meanwhile, from the parish of Santo Domingo, at 7:30 p.m., the steps of the Holy Christ of Humility and Patience, “who is also known as the Man of Sorrows, one of the most peculiar iconographies in religious sculpture from La Laguna”, left. They pointed out from the JHC, since “it is not seen in the Peninsula because it was brought from America and in the Canary Islands it adapted well and it was not taken to the Peninsula”, they explained; as well as that of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, “which has a special feeling for the lagoons”.
Both pasos, upon reaching the Plaza de la Catedral Laguna, joined the Holy Supper procession.
But these would not be the only processions of the day, yesterday the Cristo del Calvario procession was also held from San Lázaro, “which is the only one of the complete Calvary procession in the Canary Islands”. The program continued with the early morning procession of the Santísimo Cristo de La Laguna, which left its sanctuary at 04:00 today, inaugurating Good Friday.
On the other hand, the JHC also held its usual food collection yesterday.
