Lope Afonso (PP) bets on traditional commercial environments

Lope Afonso announces the commitment of the Popular Party to recover the traditional urban commercial environments. She expressed it emphatically during the work meeting that she held with the president of the Federation of Business and Commercial Development of Canary Islands (Fedeco), Antonio Luis gonzalez Núñez, and Víctor Manuel Sánchez, general secretary, with whom he shared considerations on the commercial model that Afonso wants for Tenerife.

In line with working for consensus, the PP candidate for the Cabildo will incorporate the demands of the Tenerife merchants into the government program. With this objective, he has held work meetings with the business groups of the Island and representatives of the productive sectors of Tenerife, “that they have transferred demands and claims with the intention of delving into the practice of policy useful for Tenerife”.

The president of Fedeco Canarias – a federation that brings together more than 600 companies, freelancers and sectoral and zonal groups –, Antonio Luis González, conveyed to Afonso his “considerations for the effective development of the Canary Islands and its municipalities” from the perspective of the commercial sector.

Mobility, sustainability, training, tax improvements and simplification of administrative procedures are issues that worry the merchants that Afonso and the managers of Fedeco discussed. González delved into the need to “promote a business model based on specialization, warmth and quality”, something in which Afonso agreed, who recalled that SMEs are «More than 90% of our productive fabric, so we must promote policies that guarantee their survival and promotion as main generators of employment and wealth.”

Within the framework of the insular economy, Lope Afonso analyzed the consequences of the traffic collapse suffered by Tenerife. He did it with a representation of taxi drivers from Granadilla de Abona and Adeje. The professionals conveyed their “extreme” concern to him, since “it causes serious economic damage to the sector”, which is forced to “spend a large part of the working day standing in line.”

withholdings

In addition to attributing the problem to “bad planning” in terms of mobility, he warned that “it could become a serious inconvenience for our main tourism industry: tourism.” Traffic delays “generate dissatisfaction among tourists, give a bad image and force some visitors to leave their hotel hours in advance to arrive on time for their flight,” according to Ashotel and CEST.

Lope Afonso advocated improving and completing the island’s road system, “but we have to talk about the trains”, since Tenerife requires «Plan an efficient and sustainable model of guided transport».

In response to the demands of the taxi drivers, he announces that the PP wants to implement aid for the use of adapted taxis, increase surveillance, control and eradication of intrusions, which requires the involvement of public administrations, AENA, State security forces and the sector; and elaborate a consensual proposal to develop from the Cabildo. The purpose is to solve problems, such as the situation of the taxi service at the Tenerife South Airport, one of the main concerns that the sector raised.
