The City Council of La Laguna already has the project for the Agrarian Market of the Northeast Region. The public company Gesplan has delivered to the Consistory the document that details the characteristics of this infrastructure that will be located at Finca La Castellana, in Tejina, as well as the workshop classroom, which complements the Market as an approved training center for agroecological entrepreneurship. The plot also has 9,000 square meters of orchards that will be used in the training process.

The drafted project has been promoted and financed by the Rural Development Area, with an investment of 144,000 euros, and is now in the approval phase by the Department of Works and Infrastructures. The works are financed by the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands and the City Council. The market’s bidding budget amounts to six million and that of the workshop classroom, approximately two million.

The project establishes the associated facilities for the development of the activity of a market of primary sector products, including spaces for the preparation and treatment of the product, storage, tasting, catering, teaching, revitalization and administration. The building is distributed over three floors above ground and two below ground, with independent access from the public road and adapting to the urban conditions of the plot.

The lower strip of the ground floor of the building has been left glazed, behind the enclosing walls of the plot on the main façade, being a semi-buried plant. In the rest of the upper floors, the main and side façades are protected with latticework and the façades against the dividing wall are partially blinded with a white mortar finish.

59 stalls

The market will have 59 stalls, about 5 square meters each, for the development of the main activity. The stalls have been distributed in such a way that they are grouped for the sale of fruit, vegetables and vegetables; sale of cut flowers and ornamental plants; products derived from livestock and artisanal fishing; and processed and artisan products.

On the ground floor -2 are the product warehouses, facilities rooms, generator set for having an occupation of more than 300 people, mill for making gofio, cleaning room, adapted changing rooms and an office. The connection with the rest of the floors of the building is made through a communication core with a protected staircase, two elevators with a capacity for 13 people and a freight elevator with a capacity of 1,600 kilos, both with access to all floors. On the ground floor -1 there is a loading and unloading parking for merchandise, and on the ground floor is the main access to the market. On this level there are 29 stalls and it has a laundry room, facilities room and toilets for public use. On the first floor are the remaining 30 stalls, a laundry room, toilets, two offices and a children’s playroom for public use.

The second floor includes kitchens for processing and revitalizing the product, a kitchen classroom, a garbage room, warehouses with cold rooms, a meeting room, toilets and a multipurpose room. In the third, the cafeteria program with kitchen and outdoor terrace, tasting room, toilets and storage area is developed.

The Gesplan project also develops the workshop building, which will be attached to the existing dividing wall, leaving three lattice facades, with two floors above ground and one below ground, where approved training will be given to obtain the certificate of professionalism in agriculture. ecological. To the 9,000 square meters of orchards that will be used in the formation, we must add another agricultural plot in the Agua de Dios ravine, of about 3,500 square meters.
