La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro are the favorite options for Tenerife residents looking for a getaway outside the Island at Easter. Up to 22,750 people, that is, the amount of public that would complete the capacity of the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, and 6,115 vehicles will pass through the Los Cristianos port between today and tomorrow output operation of these vacations.
The vast majority of passengers, 19,000, will travel in the next 24 hours to San Sebastián de La Gomera, Santa Cruz de La Palma and La Estaca, in El Hierro, while 3,750 will arrive from those islands to the south of Tenerife, according to the forecast of the Port Authority.
The shipping companies Fred Olsen and Armas have scheduled 11 departures for today and 13 for tomorrow from the aronero pier on the ships Benchijigua Express, Bencomo Express, Volcán de Teno, Volcán de Taburiente and Volcán de Tirajana.
These figures are added to the first Easter holiday exodus, which took place between last Friday and Saturday, when more than 7,300 passengers and 2,060 vehicles traveled to the three western islands, which confirms the great movement registered on these dates by the southern port.
Sources from the Arona City Council told this newspaper that between today and Sunday the volume of traffic will increase by 10,000 more cars in Los Cristianos and its surroundings, with an average of 2,000 extra vehicles each day, which has led the City Council and the Port Authority to reinforce the operation of the local and port police to expedite circulation, as far as possible, when entering and leaving the dock.
The highest peak of movements is expected next weekend, with up to 24 passenger disembarkation and embarkation operations. Nine of them will be on Saturday and up to 15 on Sunday, with occupancy levels higher than those of a normal weekend. The boats will come practically full.
Specifically, according to the data provided by the Port Authority, a total volume of more than 26,000 passengers is estimated in those two days and up to 5,000 vehicles, to which must be added the usual trucks that transport merchandise and that will fill the warehouses of the five boats that cover the routes between the four western islands.
In order to avoid traffic jams both from the Port Authority, through its social networks, and from the City Council, drivers who disembark are reminded that they have two exit routes to the TF-1 motorway: the usual Los Cristianos and through Playa de Las Américas. Returning passengers will also be reminded of this double possibility through the ships’ public address service when they arrive at port, as has happened in recent years.
