Costas puts out to tender the demolition of the ‘parking’ and the dam of La Arena street, in Candelaria

The central government puts out to tender the demolition of the parking municipal and the security dike of the street of La Arena and the Plaza de la Patrona. This is the technical assistance of the project of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge for recover the maritime and terrestrial public domain space. The tender, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), has Budget of 123,979 euros and the deadline for submitting offers will expire on April 12.

On November 15, 2022, the drafting of the complete project went out to tender, which was left unsuccessful. Once the specifications have been reviewed, the need to adjust the prices due to the difficulty of the project and the scope of the work is verified, as well as to adapt the wording to existing inflation. For this reason, the budget is modified and the work is carried out to adjust it to the existing situation.

Municipal ‘parking’ of Candelaria. THE DAY

between beaches

The first intervention is planned in the parking lot located in front of the Candelaria City Hall. The General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea intends to recover spaces for public use, removing vehicles and setting back the wall that supports the parking lot up to the line that delimits the public domain. The Ministry understands that this parking area “produces a clear discontinuity in the coastline located between Playa de La Arena and Playa del Alcalde, so it seeks to unite both to be able to walk the entire stretch without leaving the sea.” The action requires the transfer of the treatment plant located in the parking lot, a measure that Costas and the Villa Mariana City Council must agree to.

From this announcement stands out the confirmation that Costas will protect the area from Playa de La Arena to Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias. In this section, it is a question of intervening in the protection of the buildings that are affected by the onslaught of the waves, something that is getting worse over time and that requires a solution to be maintained for the long term.

Stability

In the case of the protection of the Plaza de la Patrona, a breakwater is built that extends the one already built to defend the Paseo de San Blas. The Ministry of Ecological Transition states that “this is the solution that is being studied, in turn, for the protection of legal homes.” The problem is that “this breakwater decreases the width of the beach and invades the maritime and terrestrial public domain, and may even compromise the stability of the beach in the future.”

The document states emphatically that “the project to be developed must seek a joint solution for the entire section that may be viable, from a technical, economic and environmental point of view.”
