La Victoria de Acentejo opened today its first dog park, an area of 1,000 square meters to enjoy the outdoors with pets. The victorious mayor, Juan Antonio García, and the rest of the councilors of the government group were present at the inauguration ceremony, together with numerous residents who did not want to miss the opening of this long-awaited facility.

The dog park, located between the Old TF-213 road and the Camino de la Costa, is equipped with different attractions and elements to enjoy with pets. It has a drinking fountain, a service for depositions, trails, a picnic area, garden areas with trees to provide shade and a large parking area of one thousand square meters.

The mayor, Juan Antonio García, stated that “with the implementation of this dog park, we respond to a neighborhood demand from the entire Victorian population, but we also fulfill our commitment to create a park in each of the neighborhoods of our town”. “In this case -he indicated-, we attend to the leisure and recreation needs of the residents of Carretera Vieja which, historically, has lacked infrastructure of this type. Now we are seeing how it is transformed into a neighborhood with a better quality of life thanks to this and other infrastructures that are built in the area”.

In this sense, the dog park and the parking area represent the first phase of a more ambitious project such as the future Santa Eulalia Park, an old 18,000 square meter estate that had been converted into a landfill. “We have been working on this project for four years -says Juan Antonio García-, which we have been carrying out with our own resources, through training-labour programs and with staff from the City Council”. “It has been a huge job -he adds-, because the old farm was full of garbage and rubble that little by little we removed, then we dismantled and leveled the land and built retaining walls. Later we planted new vegetation, which included more than 60 trees, something for which we counted on the collaboration of the municipal schools, which participated in the planting of some specimens, as part of our commitment to raise awareness and fight against change. climate”.

The mayor added that “we are advancing towards what will be the second largest park in our municipality. A large space that still requires a lot of landscaping work and a lot of equipment, since it will not be a mere green area, but a large park for leisure and enjoyment in the open air that will include a children’s area, a zip line space, a climbing wall, circuits biosaludables and calisthenics, and other facilities. All this surrounded by paths and gardens with a lot of native vegetation”.

The park will also have a ‘skate park’ and a multi-sport track for which funding is already available. Specifically, 100,000 euros of financing from the European Leader project for the first and 36,000 euros to be paid by the Cabildo de Tenerife for the second.
