You can now leave the Masca ravine by sea with the opening of the pier

The Masca ravine jetty is now operational after completion of the conditioning works carried out by the Cabildo de Tenerife. These will complete the possibility of leaving by sea after following the path to visit the channel of the ravine enabled two years ago, thus avoiding having to return on foot. The new infrastructure consists of a 46-block concrete dock and a walkway and replaces the old pier that existed in the area and a boarding platform that can also be used as a helipad.

The investment of this resource has exceeded 1.6 million euros and will enable “the possibility of picking up walkers who walk the path of the ravine and go out by sea to Los Gigantes, or in the future, to Teno”, indicated the counselor of Management of the Natural Environment and Security of the Cabildo, Isabel García, during the visit made to the place, according to a note from the island institution.

«The action of the Cabildo in the Masca ravine began with the start-up of a new visitor center in the hamlet and the rehabilitation of the trail, in addition to setting up a new reservation system”, the counselor pointed out, adding that “this has managed to reduce the accident rate in one of the natural black spots on the island, where falls used to occur and rescues that put people’s safety at stake. “With this jetty, which will be managed by the Buenavista City Council, we closed the circle opened in March 2021 when the ravine path was reopened and through which some 20,000 people have already passed,” said the counselor, and pointed out that “more than 100,000 They have entered the Visitor Center, and we anticipate that now, that there will be an exit by sea, that number will increase.

The mayor of Buenavista del Norte, Antonio González, said that for the municipality the reception of this pier “is a tremendous opportunity to ensure that the flow of visitors that is going to go down the ravine can be directed towards Punta de Teno”, adding that In this way, the offer to visit the Rural Park will be diversified “connecting Masca with the rest of the park, and helping the development of towns such as El Palmar or Las Portelas, and that the tourist reality that is generated in Masca is linked to the town of Buenavista and its surroundings and not only to the South of the Island».

Web authorization

Isabel García recalled that “in order to access the path you have to request authorization through the web, and with this the number of people running through the ravine will be managed and, thus, to be able to control its safety and sustainability with load capacity criteria”. Finally, the counselor called for people who come to Masca to do so by public transport, “because” in the village there is a shortage of places.

It was in September of last year when it became known that the Council of Tenerife work had begun to build a new jetty in the Masca ravine. More than a year after the reopening of the trail, the island institution was pending these works to allow boats to dock at the end of this ravine.
